The participation of the Vietnamese economy's leader in the 27th summit of APEC set to be hosted virtually by Malaysia is at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
With this year's theme of "Optimising Human Potential Towards a Resilient Future of Shared Prosperity: Pivot, Prioritize, Progress," the 21-member-bloc's meeting will focus on three main items: the outlook of the global economy, COVID-19 pandemic response and the adoption of the vision for APEC post-2020.
PM Phúc will deliver a keynote speech at the summit, sharing the assessment of the global and regional landscape, issues facing multilateral cooperation, and putting forward proposals for APEC cooperation in the new development period.
Regarding the G20 Leaders' Summit, also to be hosted via videoconference by Saudi Arabia this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic with the theme "Realising opportunities of the 21st century for all," the main agenda will be on cooperation in COVID-19 response, trade and investment, digital economy and sustainable development.
PM Phúc will give speeches in two sessions regarding overcoming COVID-19 challenges, promoting growth and employment, and building a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future.
As the chair of ASEAN this year, Việt Nam has attended the most important meetings of the G20 in 2020, including the foreign ministers' meeting and other meetings on agriculture, human resources, education, finance and banking, health, digital economy, environment, tourism, labour and employment, along with different senior officials' meetings.
PM Phúc also attended the 2020 Extraordinary G20 Summit on COVID-19 held virtually on March 26, demonstrating Việt Nam and ASEAN's responsible contributions to the global efforts in the fight against COVID-19 and sent a clear message on Việt Nam's determination in its COVID-19 response and its achievements. — VNS
