HÀ NỘI — Party General Secretary, President Nguyễn Phú Trọng met with voters of Hà Nội’s inner districts on Wednesday ahead of the upcoming National Assembly meeting slated for late October.

Voters from three districts – Ba Đình, Hoàn Kiếm, and Tây Hồ – expressed delight at the recent socio-economic achievements of Việt Nam, wished the Party leader health and strength to continue accompanying the country in its development.

They lauded the careful and well-thought-out efforts put into the preparations for the Party’s 13th Congress slated for next year, but asked for transparency in criteria for selection of public officials and strict implementation of income and asset declaration.

Voters expressed their agreement with the Party and State's undertakings and policies on cadre work, considering this the "fundamental task" of all, alongside the building of a contingent of qualified and reputable cadres who put the interests of the nation first.

It is necessary to remove those who seek personal power, engage in nepotism, cronyism, or political factionalism.

Voters asked for more efforts in the prevention and fight against corruption – dubbed a dangerous “inside enemy,” stressing that it is necessary to analyse and evaluate which areas are susceptible to corruption.

The people always back the Party and the State in this tough war, they said, expressing the wish that the Party and State leader would continue to steer the anti-corruption efforts.

Voters hope that the National Assembly’s meeting will result in wise decisions to help the country’s sustainable and fast development, continue to strengthen supervision – especially supervision of public investment and projects of national importance.

They also hoped that the 15th-tenure parliament, to be elected next year, will see the ratio of full-time NA deputies increase so that legislators can be wholeheartedly dedicated and improve the quality and effectiveness of parliamentary activities.

For his part, the Party leader, as a member of Hà Nội’s NA delegation, expressed gratitude for the feedback and concerns that the people have voiced in the meeting to be discussed in the coming parliamentary meeting.

Regarding Hà Nội, Trọng said the capital city needs to be a “shining example” for the whole of the country to look at and emulate.

Given the number of headquarters of ministries, diplomatic missions, universities and research institutions – not to mention large inflow of people coming from other localities, Hà Nội’s urban planning and management is not easy.

Tô Lịch River pollution, the dispute surrounding the Sóc Sơn landfill, delayed transport projects, and construction violations still remain standing issues that were handled sluggishly, he said.

The requirements for public officials and leadership of Hà Nội is much higher than any other locality, Trọng said, asking that the leaders must put out an united front of consensus and manage to mobilise the efforts of all people, to successfully build a beautiful, modern, civilised, and culturally rich and distinguished capital city. — VNS
