Vietnamese, Lao top leaders hold phone talks

HÀ NỘI — Party General Secretary and President Nguyễn Phú Trọng and his Lao counterpart Bounnhang Vorachith agreed to continue sharing information in a timely manner and co-ordinate in international and regional issues.

Speaking during phone talks on Thursday, the two top leaders said that they would strengthen ties within the frameworks of ASEAN, United Nations, World Trade Organization, Asia Europe Meeting and Mekong Subregion co-operation mechanisms.

They also pledged to work with Cambodia to effectively implement the agreement between the three prime ministers on the Development Triangle Area between the three countries and at the same time co-ordinate with other nations in the sustainable and efficient management and use of water resources of the Mekong River.

The two briefed each other about the situation of each Party and country and exchanged about bilateral co-operation and the world and regional situation.

The two leaders highly appreciated the co-operative relationship between the two parties and two countries in recent years that have been strengthened and developed in all fields, contributing to maintaining political stability and development.

They highly appreciated the efforts of the ministries, departments, sectors and localities of the two countries who have made great efforts in co-ordinating the implementation of the agreements between the two parties' senior leaders, agreements between the two countries.

Such efforts have resulted in co-ordination to successfully hold the National Congress of each Party, strengthen co-operation in defence and security, improve the efficiency of co-operation in economics, culture, education and science-technology; prepare well for the 43rd session of the intergovernmental committee of the two countries as well as have solutions to remove obstacles to bring the two countries' economic co-operation towards sustainable development.

Vorachith offered condolences to the Party, State and people of Việt Nam on the death of former Party General Secretary Lê Khả Phiêu and congratulated the Vietnamese people on their great achievements in recent years.

He expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Việt Nam, the Vietnamese people would continue to gain great achievements in the renovation process, successfully implementing the objectives of the resolution of the 12th Party Congress and successfully organise Party Congress at all levels, proceeding to the 13th National Congress of the Party.

Vorachith appreciated Việt Nam's efforts and experiences in the prevention, fighting and control of the COVID-19 pandemic recently and expressed confidence that with the wise leadership of the Party, the Government, the whole political system and the consensus of the people, Việt Nam would continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic well.

He thanked Việt Nam for sharing experience and supporting Laos for the two countries to increase information exchange, co-ordinate and support each other in COVID-19 prevention and control.

In response, Trọng thanked the Party, National Assembly, the Government and the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction for the condolences on the death of the Vietnamese former Party leader. He said this demonstrated the loyal and long-standing relationship between the two Parties, States and peoples of the two countries.

He offered congratulations on the achievements of Laos in recent years and expressed his belief that, under the leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the Lao people would continue to prosper and implement the target of the Resolution of the 10th Party Congress to successfully organise the 11th National Congress. — VNS
