HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of National Defence wants to work closely with the EU Delegation in Việt Nam to further promote defence ties between the two sides.

Deputy Defence Minister Nguyễn Chí Vịnh made the comment while receiving Ambassador-Head of EU Delegation to Việt Nam Giorgio Aliberti in Hà Nội on Tuesday.

Affirming that Việt Nam treasured its relationship with the EU, including defence ties, Vịnh welcomed the visit by the Chairman of the EU Military Committee next year, and expressed his wish that EU would support Việt Nam during the year the country serves as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2020.

Aliberti noted the positive development of the EU-Việt Nam relationship, including in the field of defence. He said the EU hoped Việt Nam would continue backing the EU’s engagement in defence-security structures in Asia-Pacific, including the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+).
