HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam attaches great importance to friendship with Belgium and European Union member countries, said Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Uông Chu Lưu.

He made the statement while receiving a delegation from the Belgium-Việt Nam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group, headed by the group’s Chairman Georges Dallemagne, in Hà Nội yesterday.

The delegation’s visit to Việt Nam would help deepen the friendship between the Parliamentarians’ Groups of the two countries AND between their legislative bodies, he said.

He proposed members of the Friendship Parliamentarians’ Groups of the two countries continue co-operation, exchanges and visits to work as a bridge boosting ties between Việt Nam and Belgium as well as between the two legislative bodies.

He said he hoped the Belgian Parliament would help urge the EU to soon sign and approve the European Union-Việt Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

For his part, Chairman Dallemagne stressed that the development of parliamentary ties between Belgium and Việt Nam would contribute to fostering relations between the two countries.
