HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam attaches great importance to its comprehensive partnership with the US and always considers the US an important partner, affirmed President Trần Đại Quang.
The President made the statement while receiving Senator Cory Gardner, Chairman of the US Senate’s Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific and International Cybersecurity Policy in Hà Nội on May 28.
Quang expressed delight at the development of ties between the two countries over the years and proposed the US implement measures to tackle trade barriers and create conditions for Vietnamese goods to enter the US market.
He also suggested the two sides expand consultancy and information sharing at regional and international forums.
He hailed the development of ties between the legislative bodies of the two countries and stressed that Việt Nam welcomed more US parliamentarians to visit Việt Nam.
The President welcomed Senator Gardner to visit Việt Nam and hoped he would continue contributing to the development of Việt Nam-US relations.
Senator Gardner reported to the host the outcomes of his visit, including working sessions with ministries and agencies of Việt Nam to exchange measures to enhance relations between the two countries.
He affirmed his support for free trade and hastened co-operation with Việt Nam in dealing with some issues such as mitigating the consequences of Agent Orange and clearance of bombs and mines left from war. — VNS
