HCM CITY — HCM City People’s Council Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Quyết Tâm and Bounpone Sisoulath, chairman of the Lao National Assembly’s Economic, Technology and Environment Committee, met on Thursday in HCM City to share experiences in land management.

Tâm praised Laos for establishing local People’s Councils and strengthening the role of the people in the country’s development.

“The city People’s Council will work with the local Lao People’s Councils to share experiences of the two countries’ elected bodies, contributing to Việt Nam-Laos relations,” she said.

During the ongoing visit of the Lao delegation, members are working with the General Department of Land Administration under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the HCM City Department of Natural Resources and Environment to share experiences in land management, ownership and land-use rights issues as well as land laws.

Tâm said proper land management ensures the country’s socio-economic development and the interests of the people, of which the National Assembly in Việt Nam plays an important role.

Bounpone Sisoulath said,“The land administration law in Laos is in the process of being drafted. The problem of land management is very complex, especially in the period of population growth and economic development, and land resources are limited.”

Laos also lacked experience in operating local People’s Councils because the country only recently established such councils, he said.

The Lao parliament also hopes the HCM City People’s Council will visit Laos soon to share experiences with other localities in Laos. — VNS
