HCM CITY — The Russian consulate general in HCM City yesterday expressed the desire to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership with Việt Nam.
According to the report that discusses the growth of ties this year, the political relationship between the two countries has developed in recent years with high-level visits by President Trần Đại Quang and chairwoman of the National Assembly, Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, to Russia and President Vladimir Putin to Việt Nam.
This year saw a rise in economic, trade, technology, military and literature exchanges between the two countries, with trade increasing by 36 per cent to US$4 billion by October.
The figure is expected to grow to US$10 billion by 2020 due to both sides’ efforts to remove non-tariff barriers in accordance with free trade agreements between Việt Nam and the Eurasian Economic Union, he said.
Russia’s primary exports included machinery and equipment, farm goods, fertilisers, chemicals, iron and steel products, while the goods going in the reverse direction included machinery and equipment, textiles, and agricultural produce and materials.
Investments by Việt Nam in Russia and vice versa were $2.9 billion and $2 billion, it added.
Russia has assisted Việt Nam during times of natural disasters. When Storm Damrey hit the country’s central and southern regions, Russia sent 40 tonnes of goods and $5 million for relief. — VNS
