HÀ NỘI – The Vietnamese government is determined to successfully carry out reforms to stabilise the macroeconomy and fuel economic growth, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc assured the Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Việt Nam, Eric Sidgwick, during a reception in Hà Nội yesterday.
The PM made it clear that the Vietnamese government supports ADB’s comprehensive strategy to 2030, which helps member states deal with poverty, development gaps and climate change, as well as promotes their private sectors.
Việt Nam backs ADB’s continued reform of operations and personnel work, he said. The Vietnamese government and the State Bank of Vietnam also value the implementation of the 2016-2020 Country Partnership Strategy between ADB and Việt Nam, according to the Prime Minister.
He said the 50th founding anniversary of ADB - and the 20th anniversary of launching its representative office in Việt Nam - is a chance for both sides to review and improve their roles in the region.
Sidgwick lauded Việt Nam for stabilising its macroeconomy which reflects well on the government’s capability, he said.
ADB is ready to share experience with Vietnam in the future, particularly regarding infrastructure, response to climate change, enhancing competitiveness, development of the private sector, and macroeconomic policy consultation, he said. — VNS
