SINGAPORE — Politburo member and Permanent member of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee’s Secretariat Trần Cẩm Tú and a high-ranking CPV delegation on Monday paid tribute to late President Hồ Chí Minh at the statue and memorial plaque dedicated to him within the campus of the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore.

As part of his ongoing official visit to the island nation, Tú and the delegation respectfully laid a wreath and observed a minute’s silence in remembrance of the founder of modern Việt Nam and his immense contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. They pledged to continue studying and following President Hồ Chí Minh’s ideology, morality and style, and to realise his aspiration of building Việt Nam into an increasingly prosperous and strong nation that stands shoulder to shoulder with the world’s major powers.

In May 2008, on the occasion of the 118th birth anniversary of President Hồ Chí Minh and the 35th anniversary of Việt Nam-Singapore diplomatic relations, Singapore’s National Heritage Board inaugurated a memorial plaque dedicated to the late Vietnamese leader on the grounds of the museum.

Later, friends of Việt Nam at the board, the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore and the Hồ Chí Minh Museum in Hà Nội came up with the idea of placing a statue of President Hồ Chí Minh next to the memorial plaque. Installed in September 2011, the statue, together with those of other Asian leaders and eminent figures, is prominently displayed in the museum’s campus, highlighting the historical connections among Asian cultures and between Asia and the wider world. — VNA/VNS
