VIENTIAN — National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn on October 18 met with the Vietnamese Embassy's staff and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Laos as part of his official visit to the neighbouring country and attendance at the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-45).
The leader commended the performance of Vietnamese associations in Laos and urged them to continue their close coordination and encourage Vietnamese there to make more contributions the development in the host country.
Man also expressed his hope that the community will contribute more to the homeland, preserve Vietnamese traditions, stay united, and further contribute to the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
He briefed them on new policies as well as adjustments and supplements to specific policies towards overseas Vietnamese, notably the revised Land Law, which demonstrate the attention the State pays to them.
On this occasion, the NA Chairman presented 200 gift packages to Vietnamese people in the country.
The same day, the top legislator and his Lao counterpart Saysomphone Phomvihane, along with officials of the two countries, cut the ribbon to inaugurate Holiday Inn & Suites Vientiane, part of the 5-star hotel complex project - grade A commercial and office centre invested by BIM Group of Vietnam and the Lao Ministry of Public Security.
Earlier on the day, Man and his entourage laid a wreath in tribute to unknown martyrs at a monument in Vientiane. — VNS
