IMF lauds Việt Nam as economic bright spot

WASHINGTON DC — Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President Tô Lâm met with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), on September 24 (local time) during his visit to the United Nations Summit of the Future.

Georgieva commended Việt Nam and ASEAN as shining examples of growth, standing out amid global economic challenges.

She highlighted Việt Nam's economic resilience and sustained progress, attributing it to a robust institutional framework and an inclusive, growth-oriented policy approach.

She encouraged Việt Nam to share its economic success story and experience with other countries, particularly those in Africa.

She also reiterated the IMF's commitment to supporting Việt Nam's development journey, focusing on reforms, risk management, and achieving its 2045 vision of becoming a high-income developed country.

Party General Secretary and President Tô Lâm congratulated the IMF on its 80th anniversary and acknowledged its crucial role in global economic stability, poverty reduction, and sustainable growth.

He underlined Việt Nam's remarkable transformation from a backward economy to one of the world's 40 largest as it approaches key national milestones, such as the upcoming 100th anniversaries of the founding of the Communist Party of Việt Nam in 2030 and the country in 2045.

He urged the IMF to maintain its support in key areas such as digital transformation, green technology, and artificial intelligence. Additionally, he highlighted Việt Nam’s commitment to a people-centered development strategy, ensuring that no one is left behind.
