BEIJING — The fact that Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has been invited to the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting of the New Champions in China for two consecutive years demonstrates Việt Nam's important role in the forum, according to Xu Liping, director of the Centre of Southeast Asian Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

This also demonstrates Việt Nam's prominent priority in China's foreign policy and fully reflects Việt Nam's important leading role in the world economy, he told the Vietnam News Agency’s correspondents in Beijing.

He held that Việt Nam is in the development process of the world economy, so to some extent plays a pioneering role, making it fit to the event.

Statistics show that Việt Nam's economic growth in 2023 reached 5.5 per cent, and the figure is expected to reach 6-6.5 per cent in 2024.

This economic growth rate is very remarkable, he commented, adding that it is relatively high among emerging Asia's economies, reflecting the potential and economic development of Việt Nam in the future, especially amid the current recovering global economic situation.

The growth of Việt Nam's economy has created more confidence in the recovery of the world economy, and this is a very important point for Việt Nam to be invited to the forum for the second time in a row, Xu said, asserting that this shows the contribution of the Vietnamese economy to the growth of the Asia-Pacific economy and even the world economy.

Commenting on PM Chính’s speech at the opening of the plenary session of the meeting, the scholar said that it is very rich in content and has many very positive points, certainly creating strong confidence for the business community and political community participating in the forum.

The issues raised by the Vietnamese PM reflect the Vietnamese leader's accurate assessments of the development of the world economy.

The three proposals given by PM Chính, including digital economy development, green economy promotion and human resources development are new breakthrough development steps that Việt Nam offers to promote global growth, he stated.

Xu also highly valued PM Chính’s three economic recovery measures proposed at the event, especially in institution building in some emerging economies.

According to the scholar, PM Chính’s high evaluation of China’s contributions to the global economy shows the high level of strategic trust between China and Việt Nam. — VNS
