MOSCOW — President Phúc has affirmed that Russia is always regarded as a priority, reliable and traditional partner of Việt Nam.

He made the statement while meeting with the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin on Wednesday within the framework of his official visit to Russia.

He congratulated Russia on successfully holding the Russian Federation's Duma Elections in September and praised Volodin personally on his re-election as the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

The Vietnamese President expressed his delight at the close cooperation between the National Assembly of Việt Nam and the State Duma of Russia in the past.

President Phúc wished that the two legislatures would further uphold the role of the Việt Nam – Russia Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in strengthening bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership and inter-parliamentary cooperation in particular.

Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin warmly welcomed and highly appreciated the official visit to Russia by President Phúc.

He expressed the delight at the good results of talks between the Vietnamese President and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He said he believed that the visit would create a strong impetus for bilateral cooperation.

The two sides highly appreciated cooperation results in the fields of politics, diplomacy, security, defence, economy, education, science, as well as in COVID-19 prevention and control, in which, cooperation in trade and investment, energy and oil and gas, continued to be expanded despite unfavourable impacts of the pandemic.

Chairman Volodin affirmed that the Russian State Duma valued ​​and wished to promote cooperation with the National Assembly of Việt Nam, contributing to bringing the relationship between the two countries to a deeper and more substantive level.

He also agreed with the proposals of President Phúc on promoting the exchange of legislative and supervisory experiences between the two national assemblies.

On the occasion, he also invited leaders of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) to the international forum on the development of parliamentarianism scheduled for September 2022 in Moscow.

President Phúc thanked the Chairman for always paying attention to and supporting the Vietnamese community in Russia and conveyed the greetings and invitation to visit Việt Nam on behalf of National Assembly Chairman Vương Đình Huệ. 

In the morning the same day, the Vietnamese leader laid wreaths at Hồ Chí Minh Monument and a memorial dedicated to unknown martyrs in Moscow. Later, he paid tribute to Vladimir Ilyich Lenin – a great leader of the working class and international communist movement at his mausoleum. — VNS
