HÀ NỘI — The movie Rhapsody in August will be screened on Saturday at the Heritage Space, Hà Nội.
It is one of three films directed by Akira Kurosawa in the final years of his life, when he turned 80. The movie revolves around memories of the atomic bombing in 1945 in Nagasaki.
The war, the flow of time and the traces of the past are simultaneously presented through inter-generational conversations in a family. These conversations are connections that are slowly slipping away, an attempt to understand and listen to the echoes of the past.
The movie will be shown in Japanese with Vietnamese-English subtitles. A discussion of the film will take place at the end of the screening. — VNS
