HÀ NỘI — A concert featuring Vietnamese music alongside Grammy award-winning conductor Jeff Von Der Schmidt will take place at the small Concert Hall of the Việt Nam National Academy of Music tomorrow night.

Entitled Suy Tư Trăng Đông (Thoughts of the Winter Moon), the night will present works by Nguyễn Thiện Đạo, Vũ Nhật Tân, Nguyễn Minh Nhật, and the group Đông Kinh Cổ Nhạc (The Ancient Music Group of Tonkin)

The night will open with a performance by The Ancient Music Group of Tonkin, featuring artists on đàn đáy (plucked lute), đàn nhị (bowed two-string instrument), and đàn tranh (16-string zither).

This will be followed by a string orchestra presenting Tuyến Lửa (Streak of Fire) by Nguyễn Thiện Đạo. In 1969, with his performance of this movement at the Royan Festival in France, Đạo became a phenomenon on the international music scene. The piece is an epic about the fierce struggle of Vietnamese people against their enemies.

The repertoire will also include Châm for String Quartet by Vũ Nhật Tân, which is a mixture of electronic music and Vietnamese traditional music, and Rise and Fall for Flute, Clarinet, Percussion, Piano & String Quartet by Nguyễn Minh Nhật.

Tickets are free of charge and can be reserved. Contact: 01249125212/ 0903230685. Email: vunhattan@gmail.com  Web: hanoinewmusicensemble.org. The concert will start at 8pm. — VNS
