HCM CITY — A photo and book exhibition featuring Vietnamese seas and islands which opened at Lam Sơn Square in Thanh Hóa City has attracted hundreds of visitors.

The event displays 300 photos and books about the sea and islands as well as people who live in fishing villages in coastal provinces who play a role in the development of the marine economy.

The photos and books are by writers and artists from 11 northern provinces and cities, such as Bắc Giang, Hà Nam, Hưng Yên, Hà Tĩnh, Hải Phòng, Quảng Ninh, Ninh Bình and Hà Nội.

Highlighted works feature Việt Nam’s sovereignty over its seas and islands. All photos and books at the event show the historical and lawful sovereignty of Việt Nam over the Hoàng Sa (Paracel) and Trường Sa (Spratly) archipelagos, and the initiatives and recommendations to protect the country’s sovereignty over its seas and islands.

The three-day exhibition is organised by the Ministry of Information and Communications in co-operation with Thanh Hóa Province’s People’s Committee. Organisers hope the event will help everyone learn more about the country’s sovereignty on seas and islands.

More than 2,000 national flags will be presented by the organisers and its partners to fishermen living in Thanh Hóa Province. The flags will fly on locals’ boats during their trips.

“The images and documents of Vietnamese seas and islands at the exhibition helped us enjoy the beauty of Việt Nam, its culture and lifestyle,” said Trần Thị Lan, a resident of Thanh Hóa City. “We learned useful things about the country’s sovereignty over seas and islands."

The exhibition will close tonight (July 23). — VNS
