HÀ NỘI — Award-winning guitarist Trần Tuấn An will perform a solo concert in Hà Nội on January 27.
The concert will be held by the French Cultural Centre (L’Espace), introducing a repertoire including Vietnamese and modern pieces composed by Spanish, Argentinian and French musicians.
"I always include Vietnamese music into my programme as I believe it is important to show the audience where I come from as well as Việt Nam’s musical culture," An said.
He will perform a piece entitled Mưa (Rain) by Đặng Ngọc Long. The piece earned An 2nd prize at the Berlin International Guitar Competition in 2016.
Long is one of the best-known Vietnamese guitarists. He was the first Vietnamese to win first prize at the Villa-Lobos International Guitar Festival in Hungary in 1987.
This is the third time An has performed at L’Espace following shows in 2014 and 2016. This concert will be different as it features pieces composed in the 20th century.
Two pieces, Sevillana and Un Tiempo Fue Italica Famosa by Joaquin Turina and Joaquin Rodrigo, will open the concert. Musician Rodrigo (1901-99) is known for a number of works and his great contributions to classical guitar in the 20th century.
Argentinian Alberto Ginastera’s Sonate for Guitar will also be performed. The musician is considered one of the most important classical composers in the 20th century. Pieces by French Roland Dyens will close the concert.
An studied at Việt Nam National Academy of Music and North Park University in the US. He has won many awards including first prize at the International Guitar Competition in New Orleans 2018; Classic Alive Young Artist in Malibu 2017 and the Hamilton International Guitar Competition in Ontario 2016.
The concert will begin at 8pm at 24 Tràng Tiền. — VNS
