HÀ NỘI — He is regarded as one of the greatest singer/song writers of all time. And tonight tributes will be paid to John Lennon, former lead singer of The Beatles.

It is 50 years since the release of The White Album, work many argue is The Beatles at their best.

To mark this iconic occasion in music history, a concert will be held at Bar +84 Saturday starting 7.30pm

“To fans of The Beatles, John Lennon has always been a symbol and a hero,” said Nguyễn Hà Xuyên, one of the administrators of The Beatles Việt Nam – Official Fan Club, the co-organiser of the musical event.

“We want to hold a tribute for Beatles fans in Việt Nam to gather, listen and sing John and Beatles’ songs. It is also a chance to share and meet with other people who love The Beatles,” she said.

According to the organisers, the programme will include two parts, the first of which aims to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ release, also known as The White Album. All the songs will be performed by musical band of The Beatles Việt Nam Fan Club. The second part will pay tribute to John Lennon with the songs performed by Old Boys Blues Band that are composed of Beatles’ elderly fans who have performed their songs for many years.

“This is not the first time the fan club has held a tribute night to John Lennon. The programme has been running at Tranquil café since 2015, which is also the establishment year of the fan club,” Xuyên revealed.

“The new feature is the 50th year anniversary of The White Album. Released in 1968, it was a special album after The Beatles’ trip to India, marking the significant changes in the band’s composing style and serving as a launch platform for solo career of its four members as well as confirming the composing capacity of two members – George Harrison và Ringo Starr,” Xuyên said.

New features of this year event include the appearance of new talent and the first-time performing together between the new and old members of the musical band of The Beatles Việt Nam Fan Club on the stage of Bar +84, a location where many musical night tributes to The Beatles have been held, she added.

Bar +84 is located on 23 Ngô Văn Sở Street, Hà Nội. Entrance is free.
