HCM CITY—  Forty singers and dozens of dancers and musicians will perform in the concert Sài Gòn Bolero in HCM City on June 8.

Produced by Nhạc Xanh Entertainment, the show will feature veteran singers Đông Đào, Ngọc Ánh and Phương Thủy, who were famous in the 1980s and 90s.

Vietnamese-Australian singer Phương Dung will also perform.

Dung began her career in 1960 in Sài Gòn (now HCM City) after recording Nỗi Buồn Gác Trọ (Nostalgic), a bolero song by composers Mạnh Phát and Hoài Linh.

She has released more than 300 albums and CDs, mostly in bolero and folk music, produced by Vietnamese studios and agencies in Australia, France and the US.

Pop stars Phương Thanh and Khánh Ngọc will also be included.

The show’s artists, including young winners of music game shows on Việt Nam Television and HCM Television, will stage 30 songs in bolero, pop, and dance music composed by Huy Du, Ngô Thụy Miên, Trần Thiện Thanh and Nguyễn Ánh, all of whom played a role in the country’s musical development.

They will perform solo and in groups with support from dancers and musicians at the HCM City Conservatory of Music.

Sài Gòn Bolero will begin at 8pm at Trống Đồng Entertainment Centre, 12B Cách Mạng Tháng Tám Street, District 1, on June 8. Tickets are available at the box office.—VNS
