HÀ NỘI — Senior lieutenant Trần Bình Phục from the southern province of Cà Mau balances his work as a border guard with another task: teaching the local children.

He is one of the people honoured at the exhibition Modest and Noble Examples that opened yesterday in Hà Nội. Featuring 300 photos and objects, it celebrates organisations and individuals who are “learning and following Hồ Chí Minh’s thought, morality and lifestyle”.

Phục is working at the border post of Hòn Chuối Island in Cà Mau Province. He is also a teacher of a special class gathering students aged 5-14 who are living on the island. Their parents can’t afford to send them to study in the mainland, so Phục volunteered to teach them.

The exhibition is the result of a mobilization effort launched in the past six years to learn and follow President Hồ Chí Minh’s morality, according to Vũ Mạnh Hà, director of the Hồ Chí Minh Museum.

“The exhibition introduces and honours prime exemplars who are doing good things nationwide,” he said.

Phục is one of 128 examples selected from many candidates nominated by the provincial departments of propaganda and training and departments of culture.

“The exhibition comprises moving and humane stories of simple people who overcome troubles in their lives, devote themselves to the community and join hands to build up and protect the nation,” said Hà.

“We expect that the exhibition will promote examples of ‘good person, good work’ all over the country and mobilise people to follow President Hồ’s example.”

Among the highlighted stories is Hồ Văn Vai from the central province of Quảng Trị, who donated a part of his land to build a kindergarten for local children. Tạ Đình Huy from Hà Nội is also recognised for creating many inventions in agricultural production.

The exhibition will run until the end of September at the Hồ Chí Minh Museum, 19 Ngọc Hà Street, Hà Nội. — VNS
