HÀ NỘI — A seminar to celebrate the 148th birth anniversary of Indian leader Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was held Tuesday by the Embassy of India and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS).
Titled Gandhiji: The Saint of Gujarat, the event is part of functions commemorating the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Việt Nam, the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the India-ASEAN Dialogue Partnership.
The seminar also honoured the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, the most prominent leader and hero of India, renowned for employing the nonviolent civil disobedience protest.
Addressing the seminar, Ambassador of India to Việt Nam Parvathaneni Harish said this was a special occasion to honour the friendship between the two nations and also pay tribute to the great leader of India.
Also at the seminar, the Vietnamese translation of Mahatma Gandhi’s book titled The Essence of Hinduism published by VASS was released. The 400-page book is divided into five main parts, comprehensively explaining the origins of Gandhi’s life philosophy. It is part of the project sponsored by VASS titled Understanding about Hinduism and Hinduism in Việt Nam. — VNS
