HÀ NỘI — The fourth Vietnam Book Day 2017 will take place from April 6-10 at Tống Nhất Park in Hà Nội, introducing 40,000 book titles of various genres to readers.
According to Nguyễn Ngọc Bảo, deputy head of the Publishing Department under the Ministry of Information and Communications, activities at this year’s Book Day will conincide with the 90th anniversary of the publication of President Hồ Chí Minh’s Đường Kách Mệnh (The Revolutionary Path).
Eighty publishers and publishing companies across the country will display their publications on various subjects from politics and law, economy and science to fiction, socio-culture and religion at nearly 100 booths.
A wide range of activities will take place during the day, including author-reader exchanges, seminars and talks, together with 20 events on books and reading culture.
Vietnam Book Day aims to encourage and develop reading in the community, while raising public awareness of the significance of books not only as a source of knowledge, but as a way to develop one’s thought and personality.
The annual event is also a chance to appreciate efforts by those involved in book publishing such as book collectors, writers, publishers and distributors. The observance of the day contributes to raising the responsibility of ministries, sectors and social organisations towards building and promoting reading culture in Việt Nam. — VNS
