Vietnamese film to compete at Oscars

The Vietnamese film Tôi Thấy Hoa Vàng Trên Cỏ Xanh (I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass) will compete in the Best Foreign Language Film Category at the Oscar awards ceremony in February 2017.

HÀ NỘI — The Vietnamese film Tôi Thấy Hoa Vàng Trên Cỏ Xanh (I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass) will compete in the Best Foreign Language Film Category at the Oscar awards ceremony in February 2017.

The film, directed by Vietnamese-American Victor Vũ, was released in October last year. It earned a record VNĐ80 billion (US$3.6 million) in its first month and was listed among the top 10 outstanding cultural events in Việt Nam.

It was screened at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. It also won many prestigious awards, including Best Film at the TIFF Kids International Film Festival 2016, the Golden Lotus award at the 19th Việt Nam Film Festival, the Golden Kite award at the Việt Nam Film Festival 2015, and Best Film at the second Silk Road International Film Festival in 2015 in China. — VNS
