PHNOM PENH — Within the framework of the Việt Nam Culture Week in Cambodia from May 25-30, a delegation from Việt Nam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, led by Deputy Minister Trịnh Thị Thủy, paid a working visit to Cambodia, aiming to step up cooperation in the fields of culture, information, and communications based on long-standing historical and cultural ties.

During the visit from May 25 - 27, Thủy held talks with Cambodian Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra to discuss orientations for bilateral cooperation in the information sector.

At the meeting, the two sides reviewed the outcomes of cooperation in journalism and communications and agreed on measures to strengthen coordination to meet new requirements in communications work amid digital transformation and deeper international integration.

Pheaktra affirmed that effective cooperation would help promote friendship and cooperation between the two countries. He expressed gratitude for Việt Nam’s support to Cambodia over the years, particularly in technical assistance, equipment provision, and training in the information and communications sector.

He noted that many Cambodian journalists had benefited from Việt Nam’s support, enabling them to improve professional skills and gradually become key figures in Cambodia’s media and communications sector.

The minister suggested both sides work together to train top-quality human resources through scholarships, boost cooperation in archiving information, and improve efforts to tackle fake news and content that could harm their bilateral relationship.

For her part, Thủy affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State always attach importance to information and press cooperation with neighbouring countries, including Cambodia.

She said Việt Nam is promoting appropriate policies and investment to strengthen bilateral cooperation in this field in line with the good friendship between the two nations.

Agreeing with Cambodia’s proposals, the Vietnamese official stressed that Việt Nam is ready to send experts and lecturers to participate in training courses and share professional experience under bilateral cooperation agreements.

She also proposed enhancing cooperation in information exchange and media products, and facilitating news exchanges between national news agencies, radio and television stations, and press agencies of the two countries.

Thuy emphasised the importance of boosting cooperation in creating and sharing media content that highlights each country’s image, history, culture, traditions, sports, tourism potential, and socio-economic accomplishments.

Regarding digital transformation in communications, she expressed her hope that the two sides would increase exchanges in research and application of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analysis, and digital content management systems, while improving information storage capacity through modern library infrastructure.

She also stressed the need to boost cooperation to ensure information security and cybersecurity, while encouraging the safe and effective use of digital technologies in the communications sector.

Earlier, Thủy also held talks with Cambodian Minister of Culture and Fine Arts Phoeurng Sackona to promote cultural and artistic cooperation between the two countries in the next phase.

Sackona said bilateral cultural and artistic cooperation has continued to develop positively through various exchange and cooperation activities at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

​She praised Việt Nam's organisation of the Việt Nam Culture Week in Cambodia in 2026, describing it as an important event that contributes to a stronger friendship between the two countries and ministries.

The minister stressed that cultural and artistic cooperation has become an important bridge helping to deepen diplomatic relations and friendship between the people of the two countries.

She noted that stronger cultural exchanges not only help people better understand the similarities in history and culture, but also create a foundation for promoting broader cooperation between the neighbouring countries.

Thủy expressed gratitude to Cambodia for its smooth coordination in hosting the Việt Nam Culture Week, and belief that the event would enhance the close neighbourly ties and long-standing friendship between Việt Nam and Cambodia.

Within the framework of the visit, Thủy also co-chaired the opening ceremony of the Việt Nam Culture Week in Cambodia on May 26 at Chaktomuk Theatre in Phnom Penh. The Vietnamese delegation visited the National Museum of Cambodia and several cultural training institutions in the capital city. —VNA/VNS
