Hải Phòng eyes to attract Chinese investors, tourists

Authorities and agencies in the northern port city of Hải Phòng has taken trade and tourism promotion activities to further attract investment and tourists from China.

HẢI PHÒNG Authorities and agencies in the northern port city of Hải Phòng has taken trade and tourism promotion activities to further attract investment and tourists from China.

Early this month, from August 4-8, a delegation of the city led by Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Lê Tiến Châu visited Chinese localities, including Shenzhen and Guangdong.

While in Shenshen, the delegation attended an investment promotion conference, in which the city’s authorities granted seven investment registration certificates with total registered capital of nearly US$200 million and exchanged four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on cooperation with Chinese partners.

On August 15, the city’s Department of Tourism and the Department of Culture and Sports held an event to promote the city’s culture and tourism to China’s Nanning city.

At a meeting with representatives from Nanning city, Vice Director of the city’s Tourism Department Vũ Huy Thường highlighted local advantages and potiential for tourism development, such as geographic location, landscapes, air connectivity, lodging service and entertainment.

He said in the coming time, the two sides will continue organise tourism promotion activities and support their tourism businesses to explore tourism cooperation opportunities in the two cities.

According to the Hải Phòng municipal People's Committee, the city is currently home to 405 projects invested by China with a total capital of $6.14 billion. Chinese enterprises annually export $5.34 billion worth of goods and employ 58,000 workers, contributing to the city's economic and social development.

Regarding tourism, Hải Phòng always identifies China as a key market. Chinese tourists account for about 20 per cent of the market share of international tourists to Hải Phòng. VNA/VNS
