HÀ NỘI — This year, Vietnamese Family Day, observed annually on June 28, coincides with the national high school graduation exams.

Family Day is an important cultural event, reminding everyone to appreciate their family home, and maintaining and promoting Việt Nam's traditional cultural values.

Vietnamese Family Day is intended to honour the family's essential values. This is a chance for families to exchange and share their experiences in creating a cultural family.

Quang Sơn, 47, a parent, said: "I am frightened because I am unsure whether or not my child will succeed. But I believe my child is already under pressure.

"So, rather than making him worry about various issues, my family always tries to be as supportive as possible. Most crucially, we help our child in relieving stress so that he can perform well in the exam."

12th-grade students in Việt Nam will take the first two examinations, maths and literature. Parents have also devoted all of their attention to this exam.

Mỹ Anh, a student at Đông Anh Town High School, said: "My parents are always worried about my body and mind, despite the fact that they are very busy with their own work. They also inquired about my learning process in a concerned manner.

"Without my parents' help, it would not have been possible to study adequately for the exam. My family motivates me a lot. I hope to be able to attend university as planned so that my parents can be happy and proud of me."

In Việt Nam, this is a huge exam with life-changing implications for every student. So it is very important and honourable for families to accompany their children.

Lê Ngọc Minh, a student of Phan Đình Phùng High School, Hà Nội, said: "I feel very anxious and nervous before this exam. When my parents noticed how concerned I was, they supported me a lot throughout the preparations.

"My parents demonstrated their love for me by cooking a lot of nutritious meals and assisting me in finding the best quality tutoring programmes. They are not concerned about the exam results and have complete faith in me. They always tell me that as long as I try my hardest, everything will be fine."

Taking a high school graduation exam has no negative impact on the meaning of Vietnamese Family Day. On the contrary, this demonstrates that family can be a fantastic source of motivation as well as a safe place for each individual to strive and feel secure in their continual development. — VNS
