KHÁNH HÒA — Eleven feature films are nominated for Best Feature Film at the 19th annual Golden Kite Awards organised by the Việt Nam Cinematography Association.
The movies most likely to win the awards are Cơn Giông (A Thunderstorm) directed by Trần Ngọc Phong, and Bình Minh Đỏ (Red Dawn) by Nguyễn Thanh Vân, which are set in the war and post-war periods.
Cơn Giông, which is adapted from a novel with the same name by late author Lê Văn Thảo, features southern people and soldiers, and the region’s traditional culture and lifestyle.
Meanwhile, Bình Minh Đỏ tells stories of woman soldiers who were chosen to be truck drivers to transfer arms, food and medicines to battlefields during wartime.

Other outstanding nominees for the awards are high-grossing movies of 2022 such as Bẫy Ngọt Ngào (Naked Truth), a directorial debut by female director Đinh Hà Uyên Thư, and Chìa Khóa Trăm Tỷ (A Billion Key), a remake of the 2012 Japanese movie Key of Life by director Võ Thanh Hòa.
The film's themes are love and social conflicts.
The organiser received 136 entries, including 14 drama series, 45 documentaries, 10 scientific films, 28 animations, 35 short films and three research works on movie critics.
Most of entries are produced by leading State-owned and private film studios, such as HCM City Television Film Studio, Giải Phóng (Liberated) Film Company and Việt Nam People's Army Film Studio.
They will be judged by experienced Vietnamese filmmakers such as directors Đặng Tất Bình, Đỗ Thanh Hải, Lý Quang Trung, and Nguyễn Tường Phương, and screenwriter Đinh Thiên Phúc.
The organiser will give the awards for best productions, directors, actors and actresses.
The Golden Kite Awards ceremony will be held on August 9 in Nha Trang of Khánh Hòa Province
In the framework of the event, the organiser will offer free film screenings from August 1-8 to the public at the city’s cinemas. — VNS
