HÀ NỘI — Repair work on international undersea cables will not be completed as scheduled, leaving internet connections in Việt Nam running at a snail's pace.
Branch S2 of the Tata TGN-Intra Asia (IA) gateway would be out of action until Sunday, nearly two weeks later than scheduled. Meanwhile, work on branch S1 on this cable was completed on January 31, the IA managing unit informed service providers this week.
Repair on the Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE-1) cable had also been pushed back from February 2 to February 12, when it should return to full speed.
The IA cable system, stretching 6,800km, connects Singapore, Việt Nam, the Philippines, Hong Kong (China) and Japan.
With designed transmission speeds of 3.84Tbps, it is an important cable transferring data from Việt Nam and other Asian destinations to America and Europe.
The AAE-1, put into use in July 2017, is about 23,000km long and has a minimum design capacity of 40Tbps. — VNS
