HCM CITY — Firms in the wood industry enjoy a great advantage with the rising preference of green lifestyles, experts said at a seminar on environmentally friendly lifestyles and wooden products in HCM City on November 12.

According to a study from Neilson Việt Nam, four out of five surveyed Vietnamese are concerned with the long-term damages of artificial materials and are willing to pay higher prices for environmentally friendly products.

Brands with high commitment to the environment enjoy a four times higher growth rate compared to other firms in the same industry.

Nguyễn Chánh Phuơng, deputy chairman and general secretary of the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of HCM City (HAWA), said that wooden products, as opposed to less environmentally friendly materials such as steel or plastic, fit well into the green lifestyle.

Ojas Oneness, an Indian Zen master speaking at the seminar, said that modern consumption trends focused on environmental friendliness and recycled materials.

The consumption of wooden products in Việt Nam in 2017 was over US$3 billion with an average growth rate of around 8 per cent every year.

The seminar was held by HAWA, which will hold the Việt Nam Furniture and Home Furnishing Fair 2018 along with HAWA Corporation on November 16 in District 11. — VNS
