HÀ NỘI — The country’s telecom revenue is estimated at VNĐ213.36 trillion (US$9.36 billion) in the first six months of the year, excluding Viettel’s business overseas, equal to 47.41 per cent of the plan for the year.

Total revenue of the IT industry in the first half of the year was estimated at $31.34 billion, a year-on-year increase of about 15 per cent, of which the hardware industry accounts for over 91 per cent.

By the end of June, the number of 2G subscriptions was 68.8 million and the number of 3G subscriptions was 54.2 million, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications.

The number of wired broadband Internet subscribers continues to increase, with more than 10.11 million subscribers.

Export turnover of electronics, computers and components within the first six months reached $7.59 billion, up 12.36 per cent over the same period last year.

The Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) reported a profit of VNĐ2.39 trillion in the first half of the year, reaching 54.5 per cent of the group’s annual plan. The figure represents an increase of 15 per cent over the same period last year.

The group’s revenue reached VNĐ68 trillion, equaling 47.3 per cent of the annual target and equal to 106 per cent compared to the same period last year.

With regards to spam, VNPT blocked more than 221,000 spam messages in June, an average of 7,300 messages per day.

The total number of blocked subscribers was 2,200, equivalent to 74 subscribers per day. The rate of blocked spam messages reached 90 per cent, online newspapers baotintuc.vn quoted a representative of VNPT.

The total revenue of the Viettel Group was VNĐ117.7 trillion in the first six months, achieving 48.7 per cent of the year’s plan, and profit before tax for the group was VNĐ21.47 trillion, paying VNĐ19.9 trillion to the State budget.

Viettel’s global subscriber number is approximately 100 million worldwide, of which 61 million are domestic and more than 30 million are overseas.

In order to develop network infrastructure, Viettel now has a modern, synchronous and complete network infrastructure with 350,000 km of fiber optic cable, 5 national backbones and 6 international backbone lines. The number of 2G stations is 25,000, 3G is 35,000 and 4G is 36,000.

The country also successfully launched 4G services, with Viettel the first operator to provide high-speed mobile internet to customers. — VNS
