HÀ NỘI — The One Commune, One Product (OCOP) programme has been instrumental in supporting Hà Nội's Hoài Đức District to boost production value and build brands for local enterprises, cooperatives and production facilities. This initiative not only enhances local products but also facilitates trade connections and product consumption.

Leveraging its strengths in agricultural and food production as well as traditional craft villages, Hoài Đức has made significant strides within the OCOP framework.

To date, the district boasts 114 products rated with 3-star and 4-star OCOP classifications. Among these, 103 products fall under the food category, while nine products are in the souvenirs, home decor and furnishings category and two products relate to non-woven fabrics.

Hoài Đức is home to a variety of traditional craft products that stand out for their quality, attractive designs and competitive market advantages. These include a range of processed agricultural products such as rice noodles, dried phở, starch, various types of cakes and candies and ritual offerings. Additionally, four products have received collective trademarks from the Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology, including the Hoài Đức late ripening lychee, Quế Dương grapefruit, Tiền Lệ vegetables and Đắc Sở Buddha's hand citron.

Nguyễn Hữu Quang, Director of the Di Trạch Agricultural Service Cooperative in Di Trạch Commune, said that in 2012, the cooperative began cultivating giant Vietnamese apples on nearly six hectares, along with more than 20 hectares of guavas and other fruit trees such as sapodilla and papaya. In 2021, they registered their guava product for the OCOP programme and received a 4-star rating, marking a significant achievement that solidifies Di Trạch's agricultural brand.

With integration into distribution networks, supermarkets and clean produce stores, guava sales and revenue have increased by 50 per cent. In 2023, the cooperative registered its large apple product for the OCOP programme and achieved a 3-star rating, hoping for greater market recognition and increased sales, Quang said.

Phí Công Kiệt, owner of Trung Kiên clean vermicelli production facility in Minh Khai Commune, shared that since 2020, his family has been part of the OCOP programme. Their clean vermicelli product has also achieved a 4-star rating. After three years, the product was re-evaluated and retained its 4-star rating, enhancing consumer awareness and facilitating trade connections, which in turn has expanded production and improved product quality and packaging.

To promote, preserve and enhance the value of specialty and traditional craft products, Hoài Đức has launched four display points for OCOP products in various locations, including the Bắc An Khánh New Urban Area in An Khánh Commune, Thôn (Village) 2 in Cát Quế Commune, Di Trạch Industrial Cluster and An Lạc Urban Area in Vân Canh Commune.

Nguyễn Trung Thuận, Deputy Chairman of Hoài Đức District People's Committee, said that these achievements are the result of the district’s focus on supporting participants in the OCOP programme. This includes encouraging product idea registrations, facilitating production and consumption linkages, and providing advice on upgrading machinery as well as product design and packaging. Currently, 44 entities in the district have products recognised under the OCOP programme.

To boost awareness and trust in Hoài Đức's OCOP products, the district seeks continued support from Hà Nội authorities for promotion and sales. This will help create a complete production-consumption chain. Additionally, the district aims to support participants in enhancing the quality of existing products and registering new ones, ensuring the market offers safe, high-quality items and increasing producers’ incomes. — VNS
