HCM CITY — The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will give away the prestigious Livestock Industry Awards to celebrate excellence in all aspects of the industry, from creating new breeds to cutting-edge biosecurity solutions.

This year the awards will highlight progress and innovation in green and sustainable development.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Phạm Kim Đăng, deputy director of the ministry’s Department of Livestock Production, said the awards  honour businesses and organisations that have significantly contributed to the development of the livestock industry.

In 2023, the agricultural sector experienced its highest growth since 2019, of 3.83 per cent, he said.

Livestock production grew by 6.38 per cent from 2022, he said.

The awards will be given in eight livestock categories for waste management technology, contribution to chain “from farm to fork,” circular economy development, biosecurity, waste management manufacture, equipment manufacture, local compound feed production, and breeder farm management.

The evaluation includes factors like compliance with the law, scale of operation, technical efficiency, social responsibility, environment friendliness, sustainable development, and value chain linkages.

The awards will be presented to 30 businesses or fewer at a ceremony on October 9.

The ceremony will be held at the Vietstock Expo & Forum to take place in HCM City from October 9 to 11.

Organised by Informa Markets, Vietstock, a premier international feed, livestock, aquaculture, and meat industry expo, celebrates 20 years this year.

The exhibition at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre will bring together more than 400 exhibitors from 50 countries and territories.

It will showcase technologies, products and solutions and have conferences and seminars, a match and meet programme, the ASEAN livestock associations roundtable, and the Biosecurity Asia Forum. —VNS
