ĐỒNG NAI — Four new Zika virus infection cases have been recorded in southern Đồng Nai Province since the end of December, according to the province’s Steering Board for Epidemic Prevention.

The cases occurred in Nhơn Trạch District’s Vĩnh Thanh Commune, Bạch Thái Bình, director of the province’s Health Preventive Centre, said at a meeting held on Monday.

The centre also found many mosquitoes and larvae at households in the commune, at a higher than standard level suggested by the Ministry of Health.

The Steering Board has also taken measures to avoid further possible Zika outbreaks. The province has had a total of six Zika virus infections.

Nguyễn Hòa Hiệp, deputy chairwoman of the province’s People’s Committee, said that educating local residents about preventive measures and environmental sanitation would continue. Spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes and larvae would help prevent further Zika outbreaks, she added. – VNS
