HÀ NỘI – Land reclamation, compensation and resettlement support for the construction of Long Thành International Airport in the southern province of Đồng Nai is estimated to cost nearly VNĐ23 trillion (US1.01 billion).

This was announced by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).
According to a feasibility study report on land compensation for Long Thành Airport recently submitted to the State Appraisal Council by the provincial People’s Committee, the work will be carried out once and will be completed before 2021. Site clearance will be prioritised for nearly 1,200ha of land used for the first phase of airport construction.
To acquire nearly 5,400ha for the construction work, 4,900 households and 26 organisations in the area will be relocated.
According to the study, most of the affected families want to receive land in Lộc An-Bình Sơn and Bình Sơn areas (Long Thành District). The zoning of the two resettlement areas is in line with the province’s socio-economic development orientation towards forming a new urban area in the locality.
Residents in the affected area will be given training to work in local industrial parks or at the airport.
In a bid to ensure progress of site clearance, the local authority has asked the State Appraisal Council to soon verify the land reclamation, compensation and resettlement support project and submit it to the Prime Minister for approval.
It has also urged the MPI to join hands with relevant ministries and agencies to arrange capital for the project during 2018-20.
The Long Thành Airport aims to serve 100 million passengers and transport five million tonnes of cargo every year. The project includes three phases, with the first one expected to be complete no later than 2025, the second by 2035 and the final after 2035. — VNS
