The plant of Arakawa Chemical Industries Ltd. in the city of Fuji near Mt. Fuji exploded at around 8:30 a.m., police said. Local authorities are battling fires and issued an evacuation order for residents living near the plant.
The plant manufactures chemical agents for papermaking and resins for printing inks, its operator said.—KYODO
