HÀ NỘI — Vũ Thanh Tùng won his opening match at the Việt Nam Tennis Federation Masters 500 tournament which began yesterday in Lạng Sơn Province.

Tùng of the hosts defeated Hoàng Bảo Long from Hà Nội 6-2, 6-3 in the men’s singles.

His teammate Đinh Hoàng Lâm lost 5-7, 3-6 to Nguyễn Minh Nhật of Hưng Thịnh-HCM City.

Veteran Phạm Minh Tuấn of Hưng Thịnh-HCM City enjoyed an easy win of 6-1, 6-1 over Hanoian Bùi Hoàng Anh.

No 8 seed Trần Tiến Thịnh of Hưng Thịnh-HCM City got off to a good start with a 6-0, 6-1 win over teammate Trần Vân Quốc Duy.

There were no surprises in the women’s event.

Phan Diễm Quỳnh of Becamex Bình Dương beat Sơn La’s Tòng Thị Nguyên 6-1, 6-1, while Nguyễn Thị Mai Linh of Hà Nội defeated Trần Thị Trà My of Sơn La 7-6(3), 6-4.

Seeded players will start the tournament today.
