HÀ NỘI — Some Olympic Việt Nam players, including Văn Quyết, Đức Chinh, Văn Thanh and Văn Đức, have given US$10,750 they received from bolero singer Ngọc Sơn to the Việt Nam national women’s football team.

In the bronze-medal match at this year’s ASIAD competition, Sơn watched the game in Indonesia and promised to present the money to both the first and second scorers.

As a result, Quyết scored an equaliser during normal time, and Chinh, Thanh and Đức successfully scored in the penalty shoot-out.

After receiving the money from the singer, the four young players agreed to give the money to Việt Nam’s national women’s team after notifying head coach Park Hang Seo and leaders of the VFF.

Head coach Mai Đức Chung will represent the team to receive the gift. In ASIAD 2018, the team was knocked out in the quarter-final after losing to Chinese Taipei’s women’s team.

“The women in the national team face many disadvantages compared to men when they chose this sport, so the generosity of the Olympic players is highly appreciated, showing the compassion between players both on and off the field,” said Chung. — VNS
