HÀ NỘI — The annual international volleyball tournament, VTV9-Bình Điền 2018, will see five of the best foreign clubs competing, according to organisers, speaking at a press briefing yesterday in HCM City.

The teams to compete in the tournament are BIP (US), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Est Cola (Thailand), Jiangshu and Fujian (China). They will be playing against three local leading clubs, including Thông tin Lienviet Post Bank, Vietinbank and VTV Bình Điền Long An. The matches are scheduled from May 12-20 at Quảng Nam Province’s Gymnasium.

“BIP is from the US and competing here for the first time. They are the home to athletes who used to compete in professional leagues. They are considered a candidate for the title this year,” said Nguyễn Bá Nghị of the organising board.

“Jiangshu proved their power during previous tournaments. Teams must keep eyes on them. The Thai representative has brought together several national youth team members. None could ignore them,” Nghị added.

Teams are divided into two pools. They will compete in a round robin format with two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals.

The winners will walk away with US$15,000, while sideline awards will be delivered to the outstanding individuals. — VNS
