HÀ NỘI — The Asian Carom Billiards Championship 2018 began in HCM City yesterday.
The five-day event will feature 50 leading cueists, including 2017 Asian champion Nguyễn Quốc Nguyện of Việt Nam, world No 10, Choi Sung Won of South Korea, world No 12, Vietnamese Trần Quyết Chiến, world No 15 and Cho Jae Ho of South Korea, world No 16.
“The Asian event, which is hosted at home, is an advantage for Vietnamese cueists. However, it is also a pressure for me and my teammates to gain victories. I will make every effort to defend my title gained in South Korea last year,” said Nguyện.
Nguyễn Minh Hoàng, Vice President of the Asian Carom Billiards Confederation (ACBC) and deputy head of the organising board said the event was important to all participating players as the points they earn would help improve in the World Union of Billiards rankings.
The championship will be a chance for the Vietnamese team to assess their players’ performance before they attend the World Cup event in Altalya, Turkey in late April and another World Cup event in HCM City in May. — VNS
