Young chess masters to compete at Asian Championships

Eighty-two athletes will represent Viet Nam at the Asian Youth Chess Championships, which will begin in Chiang Mai, Thailand, tomorrow.

HÀ NỘI — Eighty-two athletes will represent Việt Nam at the Asian Youth Chess Championships, which will begin in Chiang Mai, Thailand, tomorrow.

The young masters will take part in six categories for boys and six for girls, ranging from U8 to U18 age groups.

Five of these players are ranked among the top seeds at the tournament, which will have three events of standard, rapid and blitz.

Trần Minh Thắng is No 4 in the U18 category, Nguyễn Anh Khôi No 1 in U16, Nguyễn Quốc Hy No 3 in U12 and Phạm Việt Thiên Phước No 2 in U8. Only Đặng Lê Xuân Hiền is No 2 in the girls’ U8.

Competitors will arrive in Chiang Mai today. Their coaches will take part in technical meetings and draws will be held.

Masters will start their games a day later. The championship will conclude on April 10. — VNS
