HÀ NỘI — The Vietnamese traditional martial arts Sơn Long Quyền Thuật federation made its debut in Algiers, Algeria over the weekend.

In his remarks at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria Phạm Quốc Trụ noted that together with Vovinam (another Vietnamese traditional martial art), the development of Sơn Long Quyền Thuật in Algeria is an illustration of the strong bond between the two countries.

He expressed his hope that Sơn Long Quyền Thuật and other forms of Vietnamese martial arts will grow strong in the African country.

On the occasion, Ambassador Trụ met with Minister of Youth and Sports El Hadi Ould Ali, seeking ways to enhance the exchanges of sport and cultural activities between the two nations.

Sơn Long Quyền Thuật was founded in 1957 by Nguyễn Đức Mộc. It was introduced in Algeria in 1973 and there are 12,000 people learning the martial arts at 200 clubs across the country. — VNS
