HÀ NỘI — The upcoming National Super Cup match will be free for fans nationwide, the Việt Nam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) has announced.
The match will take place at Hàng Đẫy Stadium in Hà Nội at 4pm on February 24 between Quảng Nam and Sông Lam Nghệ An (SLNA).
Quảng Nam are the defending champions of V.League 1, while SLNA are the winner of the Vietnamese National Football Cup.
The Super Cup is the opening match for the new football season, so the referee group is especially important.
According to VPF, four FIFA-level referees will manage the game, including major referee Nguyễn Hiền Triết and three assistant referees — Phạm Mạnh Long, Nguyễn Trung Hậu and Hoàng Tuấn Anh.
The two teams will play a 90-minute match with no extra time or further rounds. A penalty shootout will be held if the match ends in a draw. The winner will receive VNĐ300 million (US$13,000) in cash, while the runner-up will take home VNĐ200 million (US$8,700).
The Super Cup match has been held between the V-League champions and the National Cup winners every year since 1999, with more than 10 football clubs having been crowned. SLNA were the most successful, lifting the trophy four times (including three consecutive years from 2001 to 2003), followed by two-time winners Hoàng Anh Gia Lai and Becamex Bình Dương. — VNS
