HÀ NỘI — HCM City FC made another surprise in the transfer market yesterday when they introduced their newest player, Brazilian striker Gustavo Santos Costa.

Costa is the third foreign player in the team, which is under acting President Lê Công Vinh, the most successful national striker in history.

The 1.77m-tall Costa, 22, played for Roasso Kumamoto Club in J.League 2, in which he played 29 matches and scored five goals. He was previously a member of Nagoya Grampus FC at the J.League 1 in two seasons from 2014-16. He competed in 15 matches, but failed to score a goal. Costa trained at the training centre of Bahia Club, which are currently competing at the Brazilian Serie A league.

Earlier, while preparing for the 2018 season, Vinh bid goodbye to 13 players at the same time. He then brought to the team six qualified players and former national coach Toshiya Miura. Just a day prior to the announcement about Costa, Vinh shocked the nation by signing a contract with former Manchester United midfielder Rodrigo Pereira Possebon, also from Brazil.
