HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Thùy Linh won the Yonex Italian International badminton tournament on December 17.
Việt Nam’s No 2 female badminton player Linh defeated Line Christophersen of Denmark, world No 299, 24-22, 16-21, 23-21 in the final of the women’s singles.
Earlier, world No 80 Linh beat Beatriz Corrales of Spain 21-18, 17-21, 21-14. Corrales was the No 2 seed and is world No 34.
This win was a great driving force for Linh to easily beat Anna Thea Madsen of Denmark, world No 400, 2-0 in the semifinal.
Linh walked away with a bonus of US$1,660.
At the Beer Lao International Series badminton tournament in Vientiane last month, Linh also pocketed the title.
The other Vietnamese representatives at the Italian event -- duo Đỗ Đức Tuấn and Phạm Như Thảo -- lost to English Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith 0-2 in the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles.
