HÀ NỘI — The 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games’ organising board held the flag-raising ceremony for the 11 competing nations at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Wednesday morning.

The 29th edition of the SEA Games from August 19 to 30 will see top athletes from Asean countries vying for honours in 404 events and 38 sports.

Malaysia will be hosting the regional Games for the sixth time, earlier hosting it in 1965, 1971, 1977, 1989 and 2001.

Việt Nam will send 471 athletes — 211 female and 260 male sportspersons — to the event. They will take part in 32 out of 38 sports and are aiming to bag 55-65 gold medals to rank among the top three.

According to Hoàng Quốc Vinh, deputy chief of mission of the Việt Nam delegation, Việt Nam are ready to compete in the largest regional sporting event. All preparations for the Games have been completed.

At the previous games held in Singapore two years ago, Việt Nam finished third with 73 gold medals. Thailand (95 golds) and the hosts (84 golds) secured first and second positions, respectively. — VNS
