Junior swimming event gets underway

The National Defence Sports Centre 5 earned five gold medals at the National Junior Swimming Championships which opened at Mỹ Đình National Sports Complex in Hà Nội yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — National Defence Sports Centre 5 won five gold medals at the National Junior Swimming Championships which opened at Mỹ Đình National Sports Complex in Hà Nội yesterday.

In the boys’ 50m breaststroke, Trương Thế Anh of National Defence Sports Centre 5 triumphed with a time of 29.40secs. Nguyễn Văn Thắng of Hà Nội and Nguyễn Minh Trí of Hải Phòng were the runners-up.

On the women’s side, Phạm Thị Ngọc Quỳnh of Quảng Bình won in 33.64secs. Trần Hà Trang of Hải Phòng and Bùi Thị Thùy Dương of Long An finished second and third.

In the boys’ 200m backstroke, Anh of Centre 5 also triumphed with a time of 2:10.60. Trương Ngọc Tống of Bình Định took silver medal, while Nguyễn Hải Long of Hà Nội won bronze.

Centre 5 swimmers also won gold medals in the girls’ and boys’ 200m backstroke, boys’ 400m individual medley aged 14-15 and 200m backstroke for boys’ aged 14-15.

In addition to five gold medals, Centre 5 brought home two silver medals to lead the 18 teams.

National Defence Sports Centre 4 took four golds, two silvers and two bronzes to rank second. Long An are third with four golds, one silver and two bronzes.

The annual event, which features 220 swimmers from 24 teams, will end on July 18. — VNS
