Liêm drops one place to No 34 in world ranking

Top Vietnamese chess player Lê Quang Liêm has dropped one place to world No 30 in the FIDE (World Chess Federation) January ranking.

HÀ NỘI — Top Vietnamese chess player Lê Quang Liêm has dropped one place to world No 30 in the FIDE (World Chess Federation) January ranking.

The HCM City-born player didn’t compete in the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships that took place in Doha, Qatar last month because he was busy studying in the US.

However, Liêm’s Elo skill ranking of 2,718 remains unchanged .

Another Vietnamese representative, Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn, rose one step to world No 156 with an Elo rating of 2,629.

The 25-year-old Liêm was the 2013 world blitz chess champion. He was the  U14 world youth chess champion in 2005. He competed for Việt Nam at the Chess Olympiads in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016. — VNS
