HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese top billiard player Trần Quyết Chiến earned a ticket to compete in the semi-finals of the ongoing LG U+ 3 Cushion Master Cup in Seoul, South Korea.
Chiến, world No 15, defeated three rivals in Group C. He beat Shameh Sidhom of Egypt, world No 8, 40-31 in 17 innings. Earlier, he defeated Pedro Piedrabuana of the US, world No 17, 40-11 in 16 innings and crushed Cho Myung Woo of South Korea, world No 41, 40-16 in 17 innings.
Among six of the best players in the world battling with the best South Korean players in the tournament, only Chiến earned a ticket to compete in the semi-finals.
This year, the total prize fund exceeds US98,500 making the LG U+ Cup by far the largest payout of its kind and a testament to the commitment LG has made to the sport. The winner will take home the trophy and first place prize of $55,000. — VNS
