HÀ NỘI — The 13th International Women’s Volleyball Tournament, also known as VTV Cup 2016-Tôn Hoa Sen, will start in the northern province of Hà Nam from today.
Six teams will participate in the weeklong tournament: Indonesia, a Chinese youth-team, Japan’s Nagasaki, China’s Xuzhou Jiangsu, Thailand’s Chonburi and Việt Nam.
The teams will play in a round-robin format to select the four semi-finalists.
The event’s winner will receive a prize of US$10,000. The runners-up will get $7,000 and $5,000, respectively.
Other individual prizes will be granted to the most valuable player, the most outstanding hitter, the best libero, and a special title for the tournament’s beauty queen.
Việt Nam have won the event four times, in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2014. Last year, U23 Thailand were crowned champions after defeating Chinese Liaoning Brilliance Auto 3-1 in the final. — VNS
